Founded in 1961, the Children's Jewish Education Group (CJEG) was formed
for families who are looking for an alternative to Temple-Based Hebrew School. CJEG is a
parent run cooperative school, made up of families throughout Westchester and southern
Connecticut. The school provides a way for children to connect with their Jewish heritage, and
to explore the basic tenets, values, culture and traditions of the Jewish faith. |
From
Kindergarten through seventh grade, CJEG provides our students with a foundation to
experience the joy, pride and appreciation of being Jewish. A wealth of Jewish traditions,
history, music, art and holiday celebrations are shared by classmates as they discover the
richness and uniqueness of our heritage. Our paid staff includes an educational director,
administrator and seven teachers. Each class has a former student who works as a paid
teacher's aide.
Students attend class Sunday mornings from September through May, on the campus of
SUNY Purchase.
We celebrate the
holidays together, with parents and siblings invited to join in the festivities. Holiday
celebrations include Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Tu B'Shevat, Purim,
and Passover.
For those families who are interested, our seventh grade teacher conducts additional
classes for students who wish to prepare for becoming a bar or bat mitzvah. Individual
tutoring is also available.
